Music Moves The Soul - Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again

"Music is an outburst of the soul." -Frederick Deluis

This week it happened twice. The music stirred my soul to tears! It is amazing when you least expect it or even when you do - I love music.

You know how much I loved Phantom of the Opera this past weekend! One golden moment must be shared.

In Phantom, there is a song where the lead, Christina, goes to her father's grave/tomb that was done so well beautiful lights, ornate cross, and Christina sings to him in her dilemma of love ... and it is the most moving.

Wishing You Were Somehow Hear Again
by Andrew Lloyd Webber

You were once
my one companion . . .
you were all
that mattered . . .
You were once
a friend and father -
then my world
was shattered . . .

Wishing you were
somehow here again . . .
wishing you were
somehow near . . .
Sometimes it seemed
if I just dreamed,
somehow you would
be here . . .

Wishing I could
hear your voice again . . .
knowing that I
never would . . .
Dreaming of you
won't help me to do
all that you dreamed
I could . . .

Passing bells
and sculpted angels,
cold and monumental,
seem, for you,
the wrong companions -
you were warm and gentle . . .

Too many years
fighting back tears . . .
Why can't the past
just die . . .?

Wishing you were
somehow here again . . .
knowing we must
say goodbye . . .
Try to forgive . . .
teach me to live . . .
give me the strength
to try . . .

No more memories,
no more silent tears . . .
No more gazing across
the wasted years . . .
Help me say
goodbye

All these years later, I cried thinking of just that of my sweet Daddy ... somehow wishing you were here! That is the beauty of music to keep those feelings alive and well.

Then tonight, as every Christmas at some point I hear the most beautiful singing of "O Holy Night" and I am washed with tears of joy and love and happiness and longing for those Christmases of yore when we heard my mother play in the Orchestra and would hear "O Holy Night!" done so beautifully.

"O Holy Night!"
by Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure
Cir. 1847

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
O'er the world a star is sweetly gleaming,
Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friends.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!

Does the music move you? When was the last time you were stirred to tears from the sound of music?! Music makes us know and feel life!

Certain pieces of music(performed live) give me chill bumps... Beethoven's 9th comes immediately to mind. :) I love music so much I studied it in college.

And I loved Phantom - I've seen it twice in Atlanta and once in NY. Glad you enjoyed it!

Hi friend~

That song from Phantom makes me think of my dad, too. He died 2 days after Christmas 13 years ago! I can't believe how much life we've lived without his presence. But he has been a part of almost everything we've done, because he was/is such a part of our lives. I know you feel the same way about your sweet dad.

Thanks for sharing the words to both songs. Love to you and prayers for you...
