Raleigh Komen 5K - Team Chestnut NC MomBloggers Sponsored by Hanes

Saturday was an amazing day!  It was our 2nd Annual Susan G. Komen Raleigh 5K held at the beautiful Meredith College, Raleigh, NC!  Hanes Comfort's line Hanes Pink sponsored us again - check out our cool Tees! :)  We love tradition!

Hanes Pink is committed to Breast Cancer Research! "From 2009 to 2011, Hanes has made cash and in-kind donations totaling $1,000,000 to breast cancer charities."  Hanes Pink is in partnership with the National Breast Cancer Research: Hanes is offering a special “pink collection” this fall, and making a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. to fund mammograms and breast cancer research. We love our Hanes Pink Tees! Cutest Desigin!

We had local friends and bloggers like Jen of One Moms World - it was her 1st 5K too!  She did great!  Heather and Chele were here!  We love our Hanes Pink Tees! Cutest Desigin!

This year we were NC MomBloggers Team Chestnut! in honor of our friend, Chele  We were thrilled Chele and Heather came to Raleigh to do the race with us.  After such a great time with friends being here for the race, I was moved when Heather said that she is planning to walk the race with the team.  Sure we would be thrilled!  This is a big deal since Heather has been running the races! She wanted to walk with the Team.  And she did get to blaze a trail with One Moms World for her first 5k! They were awesome!

There were excellent local sponsors like Whole Foods and Wyndham Worldwide. Wyndham was so amazing to host our Honoree Chele and her husband so that she could come into town and participate in the race - and finish it!!!  Memories of a life time!  Thank you Wyndham for supporting women in the Komen Race!

One young Mom was pushing a double stroller with two children in it and she was running... right past us! :)

This sweet lady was sitting on her porch. She was a SURVIVOR since 1980!!

This was true!  Everybody can do SOMETHING!

This church had the group the Carolina Harmony Chorus!  They were great!

I got to walk the whole race with Chele our honoree!!!  And this was her first 5K!!!
She did awesome!!

Then my honey was waiting on me at the Finish Line! with our cute Tigers!  Be prepared they want to run a 5k with me next! :)

You know Southern Girl here does clean up nicely.... :)  here I am at a post 5K Starbucks run!
Awesome!

Did you run or walk the Komen 5k?  Have you done one in the past?
Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy the fun!

Warmly, Carolina Mama

Raleigh Komen 5K - Mom Bloggers Team Sponsored by Hanes

Greetings!

Happy Spring! Hope you all are well and enjoying 2011!

It's Susan G. Komen 5k Raleigh Race Time!  You are invited to join us again this year as Hanes Comfort will sponsor us again.

We're just 12 weeks out from the 5k!  Here are some 5k training schedules. I've used Jeff Galloway for my Marathon and Half (2006, 2007, respectively). Love his approach = Run injury free. Galloway's is a 15 week schedule so I will include the Couch to 5k which is 9 weeks. We have 12 weeks! :)

Jeff Galloway

Couch to 5k:

Last year was a dream come true as we dedicated our race to Mom Krista Colvin from the Pacific Northwest.

This year...our dedication is near and dear to us... we are dedicating our Team to North Carolina Mom Chele Chestnut who just this year was diagnosed with Cancer. Many of us know and work closely with Chele and we wanted to support her as she begins her treatment this month.

Join us:

When:  Saturday, June 11, 2011
Where: Meredith College
When: early - met at 5:40am last year :)

Would love your input as to Official Name of our TeamTeam Chestnut?  Are you interested in a Community FUNdraising event for our team i.e. car wash, bake sale!  Feel young again! :)  Once we name our team, I'll set up our Team Page on the Komen site and we can take off.

Email me your interest and as our Nike Brothers say, Let's Do It!

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

Happy Trails!!!

Warmly,  Carolina Mama

My Race for the Cure Raleigh, North Carolina

Many of you followed along as we dreamed it, formed it and grew our team for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Raleigh, North Carolina. We were proud to represent and be sponsored by the lovely and local, Hanes Comfort! We had the best looking Tee Shirts on the race course! Thank you Hanes!

We wanted to share just how small a world it can be through the community bonds of Social Media Moms. Team Colvin - NC Mom Bloggers was united in supporting our run to Krista Colvin of Portland, Oregon. She is a young Mom like most of us who was diagnosed with Stage 3 Aggressive Breast Cancer just this past March.

The Race exceeded my wildest expectations. Some of you know I love running and have done lots of races in my days. And that this was my first race since my Marathon and Half-Marathon Season three years ago! Really! It was monumental for me ... this is not about me though.

This is about the many, the Warriors - Thanks to "Ford Cares" we learned "Warriors" are those battling cancer, Angel Wings - honor the angels who have passed after their fight against breast cancer, etc. We loved their Symbols of the Warrior and our "Warriors in Pink" scarves they gave to support the many touched by breast cancer.

As you view my video of the day, and even a few of the pre and post race, you'll see a whole love of emotion and fun. Just know that this represents real lives, real women fighting a serious disease.

There were tears. And there are other stories, like the paraplegic who jogged along ahead us, or the family running with in Memory of their young Mom shirts, and the list goes on.

Then within our group there were many stories of breast cancer, of course, our honoree Krista Colvin, and there was a mother gone before, a daughter survivor, a Mom survivor a Grandfather gone before, a mother and sister survivor, just in our small team/ group.

It was an honor to represent Krista Colvin, and be supported by Hanes! And a real thrill to run with my fellow blogging friend, Molly Gold of Go Mom Inc, my lovely Weight Watchers leader and the other friends who support this community.

Thank you for following and encouraging our journey. Plan on it - next year will be a tradition - we're thinking bigger and bolder for our team! We'd love to have you! Are you running with us next year?! Walking? Have you walk/run a Komen Race?

And more importantly, has your life been touched in some way by cancer? Family, friends? Please share!

Warmly,

Carolina Mama
