Old Salem Tavern Restaurant in the village of Old Salem in the heart of Winston-Salem, North Carolina is a treasure. The building was built in 1816.  It is an incredible atmosphere to enjoy a delicious meal in this setting. This restaurant is family owned and operated making it a special atmosphere and the food is outstanding especially after a day of exploring the Old Salem Museums and Gardens.

"Old Salem Tavern Restaurant is upscale casual dining in a historic setting.
This family operated restaurant features dishes inspired by the Moravian families living in Salem in the 19th century. We serve locally farmed food, craft and draft beers, wine, and mixed drinks in an upscale casual environment. Waitstaff wearing historic Moravian attire serve during the day. Dine by candlelight in small intimate dining rooms for a romantic and memorable evening."

Our server was the Owner's Son. He was so friendly and knowledgable about the history and the wonderful menu. He made great suggestions.

We were served "Mama's Pumpkin Muffins" which were delicious with the sweet cream butter. Great starters after our day of touring.

The lunch menu was wonderful. It was hard to make just one choice. Since I have the love for Paris and a great Croissant, I chose the Chicken Salad Croissant.  It was the best I have ever tasted.

We checked out the menu on the way into the restaurant.

Our boys loved the Burgers and fresh cut french fries. You can see they like some sauce, too.

The simplicity of dining at in times gone by. Here is our little table totally adequate with fresh flowers. I love the pewter.

The Chicken Salad Croissant with Sweet Potato Fries was so worth the splurge. And it was a complete second meal. The portions are generous. This was lunch!

The Southern Pecan Pie was outstanding! We loved it! So glad we saved room for a few bites of this.
It got us in the mood for Thanksgiving ... in August. :)
