GoodNight by Matthew Smith

The Holidays are often a time to remember traditions, family and friends.
Often that includes those who have gone before us. I love this view of
saying "Goodnight till then."

Being one who has loved ones dear to me on the other side, I take comfort in
this song on loss, heaven and saying,"Goodnight till then" my friend!

May you find comfort and peace in knowing "we shall meet again."
God bless you this Sunday!

I journey forth rejoicing

From this dark vale of tears,
To heavenly joy and freedom,
From earthly bonds and fears;
Where Christ our Lord shall gather
All His redeemed again,
His kingdom to inherit.
Goodnight, goodnight till then!

Why thus so sadly weeping,
Beloved ones of my heart?
The Lord is good and gracious,
Though now He bids us part.
Oft have we met in gladness.
And we shall meet again,
All sorrow left behind us.
Goodnight, goodnight till then!

I go to see His glory,
Whom we have loved below:
I go, the blessed angels,
The holy saints to know.
Our lovely ones departed,
I go to find again,
And wait for you to join us.
Goodnight, goodnight till then!

I hear the Saviour calling,
The joyful hour has come:
The angel guards are ready
To guide me to our home,
Where Christ our Lord shall gather
All His redeemed again,
His kingdom to inherit.
Goodnight, goodnight till then!

Prayer For Our Sons

We are thankful for you!  We get to do this with you!  And with deep respect
and humble hearts we pray the following prayer for you... and us
as we raise you for Him and for all eternity.

A Father Prayer by General Douglas MacArthur (May 1952)

Build me a son(s), O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough
to face himself when he is afraid;

one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.

Build me a son(s) whose wishbone will not be where his backbone should be; a son(s) who will know Thee ?and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.

Lead him I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.

Build me a son(s) whose heart will be clear, whose goal will be high; a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men; one who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.

And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength.

Then, I, his father, will dare to whisper, have not lived in vain.

"Knockout Entrepreneur" by George Foreman and Sweepstakes

Honestly, I was a bit intrigued with a guy who names all of his sons after himself, same name! Meet George Foreman! As in George Foreman Grills - the lean, mean grilling machines!

As a Thomas Nelson Book Review Blogger, I got to read the "Knockout Entrepreneur" by George Foreman. George Foreman candidly shares his story of almost "turning down more than $100 million!"

Love his ethic of "Make It Good - Competence Matters too!" No doubt. That from a very successful entrepreneur.

"Along with character, you and your business must develop a consistent track record of competence - demonstrating your ability to get a job done, a product delivered on time or ahead of schedule, with no gaffes or defects."

"Again and again, I have heard people say two priceless words about the George Foreman Grill: 'It works!' It Works!"

Commitment and hard work bring him the success he has attained. In the book he has awesome Knockout Idea to Stimulate Your Success! at the end of each Chapter.

Love that he says we need to "Dress for Success" in our individual career areas. "Know what the standard is and dress a bit above it." A great reminder for a casual society. And he also says to stay hungry. Always looking for the next opportunity.

Overall, solid, tried and true success steps from a man who knows! In the end, he thanks "the Good Lord, for loving me and teaching me everything I know about being a Knockout Entrepreneur."

Great Read! Motivational and encouraging. I love a feel good book from someone successful who has a tried and true track record. How about you? What are you reading?

Just for fun: You enter the win the George Foreman Smart Kitchen Sweepstakes here!  Good luck!

Warmly, Carolina Mama

Martha Stewart Chocolate Pecan Pie Our Thanksgiving Favorite

In the South, I grew up with wonderful homemade Pecan Pies that my Mother and Grandmother used to make. Then they taught my sisters and me. So we love them. When Boulder Mountain Man and I got married, we realized that we loved Chocolate too much to leave it out of Thanksgiving.

Enter Martha Stewart's Chocolate Pecan Pie! :) Yes! It has been a tradition since.

We've made this beloved Southern dessert even more tempting by adding dark chocolate. The pie filling puffs up during baking but settles as it cools.
Prep: 15 minutes
Total: 1 hour 15 minutes, plus cooling

Ingredients

Serves 10
  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 4 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 recipe Basic Pie Crust, rolled and fit into a 9-inch pie plate
  • 1 cup pecans

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, with rack in lowest position. In a heatproof bowl set over (not in) a saucepan of simmering water, melt chocolate, stirring occasionally, until smooth, 2 to 3 minutes (or melt chocolate in microwave). Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, stir together (do not whisk) eggs, corn syrup, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Stirring constantly, gradually add melted chocolate. Pour filling into prepared crust; place pie plate on a rimmed baking sheet. Arrange pecans in one even layer over filling.
  3. Bake just until set (filling should jiggle slightly when pie plate is tapped), 50 to 60 minutes, rotating halfway through. Let cool completely on a wire rack, at least 4 hours (or up to overnight) before serving.

This recipe is published as part of the "Tasty Tuesday" . Check it out for more amazing recipes to help you through your Thanksgiving and Christmas baking and entertaining!

What is your favorite Thanksgiving Pie?! :)

Wine and Design North Carolina

As a young girl, I loved art. Always at Christmas time I had art pencils and sketch pads and paints on my wish list. I wanted to be like my dear Auntie a real life painter. We even looked a lot alike and we both played basketball well. In fact, she taught me her famous hook shot! And it did win us a game, a play off championship - in the final minute!

I always intended to take Art lessons and yet I was always taking something else, tennis, swimming, piano, ballet, etc. Art stayed on the list. Even when we lived in Virginia, I nearly took the art lessons from my Auntie. Life got busy and it didn't happen.

You can imagine my delight... and dream come true... when I recently got to take those lessons!

Carolina Mama
It was an awesome opportunity to take art classes at Raleigh's Wine and Design. If they can teach me, they can teach anyone! Really! And it was so fun!

Basically, Wine and Design is just that except you know me, I took in my Starbucks and life was good. Then I met the sweetest Owners, Harriet and Emmy! They are awesome Momprenuers!

"We want people to come in, relax, leave all of their worries at home, and at the end of the night, be proud of something they did! We’re excited about bringing WINE AND DESIGN to Raleigh and look forward to helping you uncork your creativity.” – Emmy and Harriet

BCBSNC Foundation Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary by Investing in 10 Organizations Proven to Deliver Results in Their Communities

More than $67 million invested into North Carolina communities since 2000

Chapel Hill, N.C. – Today, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) Foundation marked its 10th anniversary by investing $1 million in 10 nonprofit organizations across North Carolina. Each organization will receive $100,000 to continue efforts that positively impact the health of individuals and communities across the state.

“After 10 successful years, we reflect on the partnerships and relationships that are making strides in access to care, healthy eating, physical activity and enabling nonprofits to do their good work throughout North Carolina,” said Kathy Higgins, president of the BCBSNC Foundation. “Our continued investment in the 10 anniversary grantees represents our commitment to partner with organizations that are demonstrating real impact and that share in our mission – to improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians.”

The BCBSNC Foundation is using the 10-year milestone to emphasize its continued commitment to supporting organizations and programs that have a track record of improving the health and well-being of North Carolinians. The BCBSNC Foundation is “reinvesting” in 10 partner organizations that are a testament to programs having a tangible impact on the health of North Carolinians across the state.

“We want to see improved health, and we’ve been able to identify and support organizations that demonstrate great abilities to build and execute programs positively impacting the health of their local communities,” said Brad Wilson, chairman of the BCBSNC Foundation. “The 10 grantees recognized today are shining examples of organizations living out our mission and that embody our decade-long commitment to our home state.”

The 10 nonprofit organizations receiving 10th anniversary grants include:

· Access East, Greenville

· Be Active North Carolina: Be Active Kids®, Morrisville

· Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University: MATCH program

· Communities in Schools of Moore County

· The Council on Aging of Buncombe County, Inc.

· Diabetes Management Solutions: Diabetes Bus , Raleigh

· Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Raleigh

· North Carolina Association of Free Clinics, Winston-Salem

· North Carolina Partnership for Children, Raleigh

· Student Action with Farmworkers, Durham

“The people we work with every day are hungry, and for the past 21 years we have evolved from a place they turn for food, to a place they turn for the nutrition they need,” said Jill Staton Bullard, co-founder and president of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (IFFS) and one of the 10 grantees. “The BCBSNC Foundation’s support allows us to further our impact, to continue our work in food rescue, to provide nutritious fruits and vegetables, and to establish community gardens in local neighborhoods. Without their support, we could not do what we do today. We are honored to be recognized as part of this select group.”

Since November 2000, the BCBSNC Foundation has invested more than $67 million into communities across the state through more than 440 grants. Its impact has been felt throughout North Carolina. Highlights include:

· In 2009, more than 200,000 patient visits were conducted at free clinics across the state, providing more than $167 million in free care.

· Diabetes Management Solutions is reducing its participants’ hemoglobin A1c by an average of 2.1 points. A drop in hemoglobin A1c of just 1 percentage point can save a diabetes patient an average of $820 a year, reduce complications, increase life span and improve overall health.

· The first two years of the MATCH program improved the weight status of more than two-thirds of all participating overweight middle school students.

· Communities in Schools of Moore County has created 10 elementary school gardens impacting more than 2,500 children, staff and parents.

About BCBSNC Foundation:

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation is a separate, independent nonprofit foundation dedicated to improving the health and well-being of North Carolinians. BCBSNC Foundation focus areas include: Health of Vulnerable Populations – improving health outcomes of populations served by safety-net organizations; Healthy Active Communities – increasing physical activity and encouraging healthy eating habits; and Community Impact through Nonprofit Excellence – increasing the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations. Since its inception in 2000, BCBSNC Foundation has invested more than $67 million into North Carolina communities. More information is available at www.bcbsncfoundation.org.
