Mom Boss is all about Balancing Entrepreneurship, Kids and Success by Nicole Feliciano.  As you can see, I enjoyed reading it at the Beach recently. As if the beach in not inspirational enough, Mom Boss was even more motivation for me as I was rejuvenated at the beach.

One of my favorite things is the "Like A Boss" Quiz in the book. My sons and I took it. We loved answering the questions and learning how our personalities effect what kind of Boss and Business Leaders we are! This book can be for everyone. As a mom of teens, I want my boys to know all the inside of how to be successful businessmen in whatever field they choose. I'll let you take the quiz and learn about yourself. This was rewarding and I have already referred to this section a few times since reading it.

Nicole interviews other successful Mom Boss businesswomen and shares their tips on getting organized, finding your tribe and more.

As I set new goals (yes, I love goal setting and list making and the New Year always fuels that in me),  Mom Boss is helpful in keeping me focused on my own business and new business plans for 2017.

Nicole even has a chapter "Fail Fast." I love how she teaches that "there is a lesson to learn form every loss." Personally, one of my favorite things I love about Nicole and following and working with her when I have opportunity to, is that Nicole is a positive leader. She teaches from a positive light. As a positive person, I appreciate this virtue.

You'll want to learn from Nicole by reading and studying her book, Mom Boss. I am so excited to use this as a workbook with my plans and goals for 2017. There is even a "Notes" page after several chapters where you can make it personal.

Of course, as soon as I started reading Mom Boss, it went everywhere with me! :)

Nicole talks real numbers. It is hard to get someone as successful as she is to talk about the actual numbers of various expenses in the industry and how to budget and face your financial side of business. I am thankful Nicole has shared this.

My Mom taught me gratitude and gratefulness! I love that Nicole values being grateful and has concluded her book with a chapter on Gratitude! Remember, kindness pays off. For example:

A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet - Book Review

My fun reading really got kicked up a notch this Summer with Boo Mama's new book Salty to Cut the Sweet.  From this Southern Girl, I have to tell you Boo Mama truly inspired and entertains in her book just like she does on her famous blog, Boo Mama!  I love reading her blog.  Boo Mama is so real, light hearted and fun!  She has been an inspiration since my early days of blogging.  I began blogging in August 2006.  Wahoo!  What a fun journey it has been particularly with such delightful bloggers along the way.

So here I was beachside and poolside in Hilton Head Island this Summer! :)

Beachside, too!  I LOVED the book!  

Just reading the story of her Dad learning the make Biscuits had me in stitches!  My Dad and my 

Husband both cook well.  So I was dying at the Newspaper picking up the story of him 

being taught to make biscuits and well, it gets even better.... but you HAVE to hear it 

through Sophie's eyes!  Boo Mama will have you out of commission over this and 

you cannot even predict it.

Throughout the book, you get such a sense of Family and Love and Great Food and Fun.  All things Southern, if you don't mind.  I love the joy she shares about living in the South.  She has you laughing and crying and turning page after page of great reading.

Somehow after reading, Sophie's "A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet" I felt like, even I, a Southern Girl, understood my roots even better.  I knew I loved my heritage but to understand family and faith and food in such a simple way spoke to me.

Here's another shot of my frolicking at the beach with my book!  Yes, we had too much fun! :)  Anyway, back to Sophie's story and her writing style ...

I loved the way Sophie can weave a story about her sisters and mother and mother-in-law.  Since I have three sisters - we were five ladies in our home with my Dad and brother - I totally understand the fun, the shopping, the eating out, the cooking and more.

Boo Mama keeps you laughing and loving the South because "A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet" is exactly how we love Southern living.

Sophie reminds us over again that "Family is Worth Celebrating!"  No matter, the quirks or weaknesses of your family, Family is Worth Celebrating.  This is next to Biblical.  Because Family is Everything.

Speaking of family, I LOVE how Sophie shares about her son and that she is so positive about parenting and being a Mom.  Even in those hilarious or nerve racking moments, Boo Mama shares the joy of mothering and being a wife and friend.

Blog Design for Dummies - Book Review by Melissa Culbertson

It is so exciting when friends make good.  And Melissa Culbertson, Raleigh Blogger, Author of Mom Comm and Social Media and Blog Design Expert has written her first book! 

Blog Design for Dummies.  Isn't the book itself beautiful!  So excited for Mel. 

Mel's writing is so helpful and she gives so many insightful and practical tips.  Her book is the first "For Dummies" book series book that is "IN FULL COLOR."  How perfect since she shows us how to bring our blogs to life.

It is so fun to support local Moms, bloggers and friends.  I was so happy to get to attend Melissa and Book Launch Party with other area Mom Bloggers and Friends. We celebrated along with another Raleigh Blogger, Author and Friend, Andrea Updyke who wrote "Klout for Dummies."  It was such a fun evening.  So excited for both of these bloggers.

Blog Design for Dummies is so great for helping bloggers with the most challenging part of blogging, design and coding.  I have been blogging long enough, I remember teaching myself html code into the wee hours of the morning as I blogged away in 2006.  So Mel's book is a definite breath of fresh air for everyone.  She gives ideas to easily implement into your own blog successfully.  And remember, social media people that we are, Mel is available to you for questions or information at MomComm or @MelACulbertson. 

My favorite chapter is about knowing your blog and voice so you can then know your style and share on your platform in an effective way.  This is so simple and fundamental.  For some quick tips, check out Mel's "Cheat Sheet" for the basics.

"Everyday Greatness" by Stephen R. Covey Review

"Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do!"


"Everyday Greatness" by Stephen R. Covey "Inspiration for a meaningful life." Thomas Nelson published. Covey works at facilitating you getting more out of life with his insights and commentary! This is a Reader's Digest recommended reading book. It is a nice coffee table or bedside table book. To clarify, the writings are not by Covey but the "insights and commentary" are and they are well done.

Believe me, I have been perusing it for a while and it is chock full of nuggets to get you focused. Covey challenges you to make three important choices everyday:

1) The Choice to Act - your energy
2) The Choice or Purpose - your destination
3) The Choice for Principles - the menans for attaining your goals.

Other topics and titles include, Creating a Dream, Teaming with Others and Overcoming Adversity. Be prepared there is a lot of information in this book. You can also use this book as a refresher or encouragement, reading Chapters or Sections at a time and still glean a lot of insight.
