When Crystal Coast Tourism invited our family to North Carolina's Crystal Coast for a Family Travel Review of our lovely coastline, we were overjoyed. We love sharing about our lovely Carolinas. Sun-Surf Realty of Emerald Isle, North Carolina offered to host our family in one of their fabulous oceanfront properties.  We found great beauty and activity with peace and calm at Emerald Isle.

We arrived to this beautiful, palatial property, Hart & Sole, at Emerald Isle, NC. It is a 6 bedroom, 5 bath oceanfront property. Immediately, we felt comfortable in this serene home.

As you know from visiting here at Carolina Mama, we love the shore. We love and adore our  Carolina Beaches. However, this was our first visit to the Crystal Coast and we couldn't wait to get there. These Southern Outer Banks were beautiful from the moment we arrived, early Friday morning. We grabbed our boogie boards and immediately hit the waves. The Atlantic Ocean represented. We were so elated to just be there and in the water on this beautiful Spring day.

We arrived at Emerald Isle early Friday morning to saunter on the beach a little before our check in.  To our delight at noon, while taking a break under our beach umbrella,  we found a text on my phone from Sun-Surf Realty... "It's time to get your vacation started! Hart & Sole is ready for your check-in!"  Like now! 

We checked in at the Sun-Surf Realty front office. The staff was so friendly and accommodating - just as they had been on the phone and through email. They joyfully and competently answered every question. We received a great list of items to remember for a fabulous beach vacation.  And the list of things that were provided at the home so we would not pack unnecessarily. So helpful!  Tiffany and Tina and Jaclyn smiled as we checked in and gave us our package to start.

This was the beautiful view from the back of the home. This faces the Ocean. So, here I am walking to the home from the Ocean on the boardwalk. Look at the sprawling porches on the back of the house. These are available from every room on the back of the home. We love this feature. 

The upper level is a expansive screened in porch with patio furniture. This is off of the 

large living area and kitchen. We are an active family so we loved this access.

This picture is charming to me as it shows how we lived and loved this home. The twinkle of the lights in the home at dusk as my husband captured this as we were just getting in from a wonderful day at the beach and were about to grill on the deck. See the blue adirondack chairs on the right upper deck, the grill is there and we spent so much time enjoying this together. 

This was our Hart and Sole Sunset at Emerald Isle, NC. This was our sunset one evening from our own boardwalk from the back of the home. It was so beautiful. 

Mornings looked like this from the upstairs porch as we enjoyed some quiet time, reading, painting and more. We got used to this view and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.

As soon as we walked into this delightful kitchen, I was in love! The Kitchen is truly the center of activity and social time. We loved the convenience of this kitchen. It had EVERY.THING we needed and more. We enjoyed grilling and cooking here and spending time at the house together! This kitchen made it so comfortable and simple. It was nice to have every little luxury from hone here at our beach home away from home.

The eat in kitchen counter was very convenient. We spent time talking, cooking, laughing and more. Sun Surf Realty welcomed us with this great basket of Island specialties and snacks for our stay. We were well loved. 

Here is my lovely husband after a wonderful day on the shore - he approaches our luxurious oceanfront home for the long weekend. Hart & Sole is truly, a splendid and serene home, we were so comfortable and relaxed with everything easily accessible. The water hoses to rinse off the sand were at the back and downstairs entrances, as well. The conveniences here are all perfect.

Our boys had made themselves comfortable enjoying the hot tub off of the master bedroom. 

This was such a treat for everyone. It was a private closed in porch for the hot tub.  It was a perfect "prescription" after our full days of activities. 

Here is one of the six bedrooms. Each room is decorated so thoughtfully with every 

amenity. We loved all of the anchors, sand dollars and crabs throughout the home. 

Across the hall sat this great bunk bed room. All of the rooms had their own 

access to the porches and their own spacious bathrooms. This one has a great porch and 

plenty of closet space and is a walk straight out to the Ocean.  

Our boys LOVED having extra bedrooms. This became their Entertainment Room as it had 

lots of room for their games, and personal gear. 

Here is another beautiful bathroom with everything possibly needed.  The bathroom were spacious and stoked well with linens. We loved the colors throughout the home as it made for such a calm and peaceful setting. 

We loved the convenience of the under the home carport at Hart and Sole. This lead to a nice and convenient indoor entrance to the home and to the elevator! This was so convenient!  The elevator worked from the ground up to the third floor. Helpful! And fun! From this carport, there was an outdoor stair access that was nice and lead to the second floor. 

                                  

This King Size Bedroom was beautiful and spacious. There was a beautiful bathroom 

off of the bedroom with vanity and closet space. 

Here is the most beautiful marble Spa Shower. The marble and shower settings and 

roomy shower keep this home up to date with the latest amenities. 

Every morning I enjoyed taking pictures of this amazing view. Look the water, is there any doubt where Emerald Isle got its name! The water was splendid every day with every detail. 

Then, we would drink coffee here or on the many other decks and porches around the home. 

We ate dinner al fresco here a couple of nights as we listened to the ocean waves crash around us. 

Here is the great family room! This was fun having the family here while I cooked or 

while Boulder Mt. Man grilled off of the deck here. 

We loved working with Sun-Surf Realty for this beautiful reservation. Sun-Surf met our every need. They are open for office hours every day of your vacation. We appreciate their availability and ability to answer every question or solve any problems. Again, the Staff was so helpful and available to us.

Then, the time came that we had to say good bye. We created some memories for a lifetime here and we were so grateful we visited Hart & Sole, Emerald Isle, NC.

Hotel, Other Developments Unfold at Tryon Equestrian Resort

Tryon Resort, billed as the world's most significant new equestrian lifestyle resort, has opened just north of Tryon, a town of 1,600 in the Blue Ridge Foothills with an eight-decade horse tradition. Tryon International Equestrian Center, the first stage of the 1,400-acre development in Mill Spring, is already holding international-level equestrian competitions. Dining and shopping amenities are open, and current lodging options include cabins, RV sites and the 17-room Lodge at Lake Lure.

In 2016, the Hotel at Tryon Resort will extend hospitality with its 150 rooms and suites, a restaurant and bar, retail shops, heated pools, fitness center, salon and event space. The next year, a 200-room, nature-inspired luxury resort with a destination spa will open. The resort will also include an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course and luxury homes. Whirligig Park Turns Wilson Into a Visionary Arts Destination

Artist Vollis Simpson’s wind-powered whirligigs can be found at must-see museums in Raleigh, Atlanta, New York and Baltimore and in private collections around the world. Downtown Wilson becomes the envy of them all with the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, the new permanent home of 31 of the whimsical sculptures, which create their own rhythm and dance in the breeze. The park ensures the legacy of the artist, who died in 2013 at age 94, and provide easy access from I-95 for travelers who want to discover the treasures. U.S. National Whitewater Center Adds Land, Facilities

The U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, best known for the world's largest manmade recirculating river, will open the nation's only permanent deepwater solo climbing facility in spring 2016. The climbing facility, one of four new projects at the center, will challenge climbers to scale heights of up to 45 feet with a 16-foot pool at the base to catch them on the descent. Other developments include:

• A new 100-foot tower for two new zip-line experiences.
• A new 5,000-square-foot retail operation.
• A kitchen expansion with new dining options.

The U.S. National Whitewater Center, an official Olympic training site, promotes an active outdoor lifestyle with a range of adventures including whitewater rafting, stand-up paddle boarding, biking, running, climbing and zip lining. Craft beer, concerts and other events also draw visitors. The center's recent acquisition of 488 acres, which will be kept in its natural state for now, brings the tract to 1,188 acres. Boutique Hotels, Arrival of New Brands Add Interest to Lodging Landscape

Between the opening of the Village Hotel on Biltmore Estate in Asheville, the Durham Hotel and the 21c Museum Hotel Durham, 2015 would seem a tough year to top. But the excitement’s not over. Here’s a rundown of notable lodging properties with openings planned for 2016:

• Cardinal Hotel, Winston-Salem, opening May 10. Kimpton’s first hotel in North Carolina writes a new history for 1929’s Reynolds Building, the prototype for the Empire State Building. Named for North Carolina’s state bird, The Cardinal will have 174 guest rooms, including 36 suites; an expansive fitness center; the Katharine Brasserie & Bar; and more than 6,300 square feet of meeting space. www.kimptonhotels.com
• Mayton Inn, Cary, opening in January. A Georgian-style boutique inn will offer 33 rooms, 11 deluxe suites and a wedding cottage. • Jack Tar Motel, Durham, opening second quarter. A midcentury hotel in the heart of downtown Durham is recast as a modern, 74-room hotel. Amenities include a restaurant and retail on the ground floor plus a rooftop deck and pool.www.austinlawrencepartners.com
• AC Hotel Asheville, opening in summer. Marriott's rapidly expanding European brand enters North Carolina as a 132-room lifestyle hotel in downtown Asheville. • Ivey’s Boutique Hotel, Charlotte, opening in late 2016. The Ivey’s building, once home to the upscale Ivey’s department store, will see new life as a 42-room luxury hotel in the heart of the city. Plans include a spa and meeting space as well as dining and retail operations. mrkinv.com
• StateView Hotel, Raleigh, opening in fall. From Marriott’s Autograph Collection brand, the 164-room hotel and full-service conference center is under construction overlooking Lake Raleigh at N.C. State University’s Centennial Campus. Amenities include an outdoor pool, restaurant and bar with 9,000 square feet of meeting space.www.stateviewhotel.com

Film Action Directs Attention to NC Locations

Film lovers can connect the scenes to the scenery of new titles being released in 2016. Benjamin Walker and Teresa Palmer star in "The Choice," the latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation, set in Beaufort with filming in the Wilmington area (release date: Feb. 5). "The Disappointments Room," a supernatural thriller starring Kate Beckinsale and Lucas Till, was filmed in Greensboro, Winston-Salem and Ramseur (release date: March 25). And for “Masterminds,” the heist comedy with Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis, cameras rolled in the Asheville area with an excursion for Wilson to Sliding Rock, a 60-foot natural waterslide in Pisgah National Forest (release date: Sept. 30).

Recent DVD releases of projects filmed in North Carolina include Season 3 of "Under the Dome," the family thriller "Max," the Sparks romance “The Longest Ride,” the PBS culinary documentary series "A Chef's Life," the Christian dramas "Shake Off the World" and “War Room,” and the teen drama "Paper Towns." Moogfest Takes Up Residence in Durham

Moogfest, the internationally acclaimed festival of music, art and technology, will make its Durham debut May 19-22 with a lineup that includes Gary Numan, GZA, ODESZA and Laurie Anderson. In announcing the festival's relocation from Asheville, where Moog Music is based, festival organizers cited Durham's "momentum as a capital of technology, culture and entertainment." Moogfest, a tribute to Dr. Robert Moog, inventor of the analog synthesizer, is known for presenting performances by early pioneers in electronic music alongside pop and avant garde experimentalists of today. Greensboro Inaugurates USA Masters Games

The Greensboro Coliseum Complex will host the inaugural USA Masters Games, a national championships-level competitive experience for athletes 21 and older. The Games, set for July 21-31, will comprise two dozen sports, from badminton and bowling to figure skating, triathlon and weightlifting. The competition, to be held in even-numbered (or Olympic) years, will feature a Games Village to serve as a central hub/gathering point for athletes and fans, plus opening and closing ceremonies. www.usamastersgames.com

USA Cycling Championship Events Head to Winston-Salem

USA Cycling has chosen Winston-Salem as host city for the 2016 and 2017 Volkswagen USA Cycling Professional Road & Time Trial National Championships. The inuagural run will be May 22-30 and will combine those championships, USA Cycling's Masters Road National Championships and the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic. USA Cycling officials say the nine-day event "will make Winston-Salem the epicenter of American cycling next spring." Events will take place in multiple venues throughout the area, including downtown Winston-Salem and the rolling hills of the Yadkin Valley. In related news, USA Cycling's Collegiate Road National Championships take place May 13-15 in Marshall and Weaverville. www.usacycling.org

Performance Hall to Open in Downtown Henderson

The McGregor Hall Performing Arts and Learning Center, a 1,000-seat venue in historic downtown Henderson, will host its official opening Feb. 19 with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. The $9 million venue, which boasts a 3,200-square-foot stage and state-of-the-art production capabilities, is the crowning piece in the Embassy Cultural Center Foundation’s vision for revitalizing a central downtown area as a place of learning and enrichment. The hall, on the site of the old Embassy Theatre, joins the 40,000-square-foot Perry Library and a 5,000-square-foot gallery. Old Salem Opens New Sites for Settlement’s 250th Anniversary

In 2016, Old Salem Museum & Gardens celebrates the 250th anniversary of the founding of Salem, a Moravian settlement built on a foundation of faith, culture and education. The architecture and landscape of the 20-block neighborhood reflect authentic history, thanks to efforts to preserve original structures and gardens. The anniversary celebration will include the opening of two newly restored buildings with lively interpretations of history: the Boys School, where hands-on activities and interactive technology will help relay the story, and the Doctor’s House, which will illuminate how Dr. Samuel Benjamin Vierling practiced medicine and dispensed remedies. These buildings will join other places popular for shopping (Winkler Bakery, A. Engadine Inn And Cabins At Honey Hill is set in the mountains just west of Asheville, North Carolina. Here you can see the beautiful Victorian porches and deck of the Engadine Inn. We loved this architecture. So happy this is preserved and everyone can enjoy it! 

Here is a brief history of Engadine. 

• Engadine was built in 1885...10 years before the construction of the Biltmore Estate.
• Engadine is on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1885!
• Located just 15 minutes from the urban center of Asheville, Engadine is a country retreat offering luxury accommodations in 5 bed and breakfast rooms in the Inn or in 6 mountain cabins on the 12 acre property.
• The Inn is reserved for adults only, but our Cabins are family friendly and some are also pet friendly.

Engadine's original builder was named Captain John Keais Hoyt. He was a former Confederate Officer in Company K, 3rd Alabama Infantry in Stonewall Jackson's Brigade, after the Civil War ended. That is so awesome! We loved learning how history effects places we travel to today! Captain Hoyt named Engadine the original name because it reminded Hoyt of the Engadine Valley in Switzerland. This was a special place to him. He had Engadine built for his family after the Civil War and the family moved into the house in 1895.

Rick and Tom, the new owners, are excited to bring the historic name of Honey Hill back to Engadine making it full circle to the historic, original name Engadine Inn and Cabins.

It was delightful to have long time blogging family friends join us for dinner and fun one evening! They love the mountains as well. It was wonderful to be reunited in this beautiful setting. And my have the children grown! Thanks for taking the time @OneMomsWorld.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Engadine Inn & Cabins. It was truly a time of refreshing and family time. We love the mountains so the 12 acre property gave us the feeling of being on our own mountain. 

We stayed in the Mt. Mitchell Log Cabin. It is the only cabin that will accommodate up to 6 people.  This cabin was beautiful! It had beautiful hardwood floors throughout.  There are 2 private bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms with showers and bath. The Upstairs master bath has a jacuzzi tub.  The full kitchen had all the necessary cooking supplies, a full refrigerator and microwave.  

All the cabins have a wood burning fireplace that can be used from October 15 through March 15, which is a huge plus for Boulder Mountain Man.  Being from Colorado, he loves the "real deal!"

The Deck of the Mt. Mitchell Cabin was spectacular. Our views were breathtaking as the Fall Leaves were turning across the Blue Ridge Mountains. We ate breakfast on the deck and enjoyed the mountain air and amazing views.

Here is the eat in kitchen of the Cabin. We loved the Owl and Butterfly theme throughout! I have to say we ate our Breakfasts on the Deck! :) This is great, too. 

We opted for the Continental Breakfast in the Cabin. This lovely basket of fruit and gourmet muffins awaited us with orange juice, greek yogurt and coffee. 

The rooms in our cabin had a real fun and mountain feel. We loved this handmade quilt displayed here.

The bathrooms were spacious and had all the amenities.  This is my kind of 'camping' with fresh towels a plenty, luxury toiletries and more. 

The master bedroom was spacious and had the comfort of a luxury hotel.  Or home. 

The log cabin wood feel was fun. Spa Selfie! :)

Speaking of spa, the hot tub, jacuzzi was perfect after hiking and touring the mountains.

Rick gave a warm welcome and knows all about Engadine and is ready to help accommodate you and your group / guests.

Since Engadine is so near Asheville, here are a few things about Asheville that you have to explore:

• Offers a burgeoning smorgasbord of restaurant and micro brewery experiences for "foodies' to choose from
• Offers surprisingly broad selection of arts and cultural experiences...from folk art to fine art, performances by a diverse spectrum of musicians and regional theatre groups and an eclectic mix of museums.
• Offers visitors a collection of world class tourist attractions and outdoor activities to enjoy...visiting Biltmore, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, sight seeing in the Great Smoky Mountains Park, hiking the Appalachian Trail, rafting the French Broad River, etc.

We loved the Picnic Lunch available to take on the ABBA Artisan Tour.  This was arranged by Engadine Inn and was ideal so we could enjoy the mountains, the artists and not worry about finding a restaurant or cafe.

ABBA© Artisan Tour in Leister, NC.  We loved the beautiful mountain drive.  We enjoyed our tasty gourmet Picnic from Engadine at a stop at the Leister Community Center where our boys played basketball with the mountains as the backdrop.

There are many stops along the way of the ABBA Artisan Tour.

We enjoyed every bit of our stay. Our boys romped around until their hearts content!
